Jorge Lorenzo finished well over 1 second in front of Ducati's Dovizioso followed closely in third by Marc Marquez on the Repsol Honda at the Qatar GP overnight.
In what was a great race that saw the Ducati motorcycles have a significant amount of power off the grid, the real winner was the new Michelin tyres which held up well after an off season of testing.
Jorge Lorenzo kissed his rear tyre when riding into parc ferme indicating that his choice of Michelin soft rear tyre was a gamble however, a choice that paid off. "To choose the right rear tyre was very important. I try the hard in the warmup but I didn't have a good feeling" said Lorenzo after the race.
Overall, Jorge Lorenzo finished 1st on the Yamaha, followed by Dovizioso on the Ducati, third was Marquez on the Honda, fourth Yamaha with Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa rounded out the top 5 on the Honda.
Vinales did a great job finishing 6th on the Suzuki and Aussie Jack Miller finished 14th on the Estrella Galicia.
Aprilia Racing Bradl crashed out along with Baz, Cruthlow, Iannone and Hernandez.
Yamaha's Lorenzo, not only now has 25 points under his belt, but is heading into Race 2 with a lot of confidence.
