Motorbike Maintenance and Servicing

As people put their motorbikes back into hybernation for the winter months, particularly in the Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Tasmanian areas, there are a few important things to remember about general maintenance and wear and tear.  Although, many people won't be riding their motorcycle during the winter period, it doesn't mean that you can delay your motorbike service needs either.

There are a few tips and trips that you can implement over the winter months so that when you dust off the cobwebs on your motorbike, that it's in the perfect condition for you to start enjoying the sunshine again.  These include:

- Oil levels:  Keep an eye on the oil levels. It's relatively easy, and takes a few minutes.  Don't forget, that oil goes off.  So make sure you get your motorbike mechanic to do a change of oil on a yearly basis!

- Tyre pressure:  Check your tyre pressure before you go out for that first ride.  In terms of what level they should be at, always stick with your manufacturer's specifications.  Look at the manual or do a quick google search on the manufacturer's site and you should be able to find what you need

- Chains: inspecting and maintaining your chain condition is actually really important to do, particularly between services.  Chains love lubrication and they actually need to be lubricated every 2 weeks or every 500km - whichever of the two comes first.  So obviously, this is a lot of lube that's required over those cold winter months!  It's easy and cheap for you to do at home and at the same time you can check your tension.

The most important thing we suggest however, is to also take your motorbike to your fully qualified motorbike service centre.  Book it in and get them to give the bike an overhaul.  If you've been looking after your bike it should be a relatively quick, simple and cheap exercise.

Most importantly, ride safe.
